PROJECTS OVERVIEW

The rotary Club of Kidderminster is rightfully proud of it's contribution to major projects both locally and further afield. Listed below is a selection of our significant initiatives.

1996-97 75th Anniversary: Fund raising to help furnish the new YOUTH AND COMMUNITY CENTRE near the Horsefair. £6,000 + ongoing
1996-97 75th Anniversary: Co-ordinating fund raising for a large TEXTILE WORK OF ART to hang in the new Kidderminster Library, designed and made at Kidderminster College. Worth £8,000 - £9,000
1996-97 Financial and sponsorship support to upgrade ABBEYFIELD HOUSE by providing substantial amount of carpeting. approx £1,500 in cash & kind
1995 Donation to LIFE SKILLS CARAVAN PROJECT for schools in Worcestershire. £6,000
1993-95 Financing and staffing over 5 journeys of lorry-borne aid to BOSNIAN REFUGEES IN HUNGARY - carrying parcels from local schools, and goods from firms, hospitals and individuals. Goods £23,000 Travel £7,500
1992 Initial funding and setting up the PUT-TO-BED SERVICE. £6,000
1991 Landscaping KEMP HOUSE HOSPICE gardens. Value £4,500
1990 Initial funding and setting up the LoCom CARE SCHEME. £10,000
1990 Formed THE ROTARY CLUB OF BEWDLEY - 32 founder members
1988-93 ANNUAL SPONSORED WALK (Joint with Stourport - 11 or 6 miles) between Bewdley, Stouport and Kidderminster. Many schools and clubs raised £12-16,000 p.a at its peak - for schools, clubs and Rotary projects. £62,300 distributed (after expenses) during 6 years
1981 Initiating the local "FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE" - by providing radio equipment for a team of local GP's. £1,000 [eq. £2,270]
1978 Jointly with Stourbridge and Bromsgrove Rotary Clubs, formed THE ROTARY CLUB OF HAGLEY - 33 founder members.
1974 Inaugurated the PROBUS CLUB of Kidderminster.
1973 Formed Kidderminster's first ROTARACT CLUB.
1972-73 GOLDEN JUBILEE The Club's Jubilee Fund established for charity. Over £1,500 raised [eq. £9,500]
1968-70 ABBEYFIELD HOUSE (15 - 17 Birmingham Road) purchased and converted into bed-sitting room accomodation for elderly people. £15,000 [eq. £130,000]
1963 Formed THE ROTARY CLUB OF STOURPORT-ON-SEVERN - 29 founder members.
1930-60 Projects initiated and supported by individual members.
1929 Jointly with Stourbridge Rotary Club, erected THE TOPOSCOPE at the highest point on Clent HIll, Worcestershire. Repairs funded jointly in 1932, 1978 and 1997. £39..10..0d each club. [eq. £1,335 each]
